Hunter Mill vs. Oakton
July 18, 2009

In NVSL Division II action, the Hunter Mill Sharks were edged out in another close meet by the Oakton Otters 209 to 193.

The Sharks fell behind 109-71 after freestyle and backstroke but came storming back in breaststroke and butterfly, outscoring Oakton 92-70 in those strokes to make the meet close. Hunter Mill could not close the gap further, splitting the relays with the Otters.

Double winners for Hunter Mill included Eric Kim (13-14 boys free and back), Jacob Freck (13-14 boys breast and fly), Anna Sarman (13-14 girls back and fly), Sean Fletcher (15-18 boys free and back), Mark Sarman (15-18 boys breast and fly) and Kaitlin Pawlowicz (15-18 girls free and fly).

The high point achieving age group were the 13-14 year olds with the girls and boys each winning 35 points summing to 70 out of a possible 82 points in their events.

The Sharks registered sweeps in the 13-14 girls breaststroke (Clara Gainey, Jenny Mallette, Audrey Caprio) and the 13-14 girls butterfly (Anna Sarman, Clara Gainey, Julia Hines).

Shark swimmers achieved 20 personal bests in the meet with swimmers Anna Sarman, Samantha Fletcher (15-18 girls back and breast), and Jordan Myles (11-12 boys free and breast) achieving bests in two events.

Hunter Mill vs. McLean

In a NVSL Division II swim meet, the Hunter Mill Sharks were edged by the McLean Marlins 212 to 190.

The highlight of the meet for Hunter Mill was provided by 17 year old Sean Fletcher, who, after just returning from the 2009 USA Swimming World Championship Trials in Indianapolis, broke his own NVSL record in the 50 m butterfly with a time of 24.56s, lowering his previous best by 0.72s. He also set a team record in the 50 m backstroke by taking first place with a time of 26.90s.

In addition to Sean Fletcher, other double winners for the Sharks were Heather Tuft (8&U girls free and breastroke) and Christine Mayuga (11-12 girls free and butterfly).

The high point achieving age group were the 15-18 year olds with the girls and boys each winning 31 points summing to 62 out of a possible 72 points in their events.

The Sharks registered sweeps in the 11-12 girls freestyle (Christine Mayuga, Lily Bourne, Brittany DeCamp), the 11-12 girls backstroke (Cori Ritchey, Rachel Kim, Michelle Abt), the 15-18 girls freestyle (Kaitlin Pawlowicz, Claire Caprio, Samantha Fletcher) and butterfly (Madeleine Bourne, Kendall Freck, Claire Caprio).

Shark swimmers achieved 28 personal bests in the meet with swimmers Sean Fletcher, Alexandra Hegerle (13-14 girls free and butterfly), and Nathan Pawlowicz having PB’s in two individual events.

Hunter Mill vs. Donaldson Run

In a NVSL Division II swim meet, the Hunter Mill Sharks outscored the visiting Donaldson Run Thunderbolts 240 to 162.

The Sharks led comfortably throughout the meet with Kaitlin Pawlowicz delivering the winning points by finishing first in the 15-18 girls butterfly.

The 8&U boys and girls swam exceptionally well, winning all six individual events and both relays in the process of capturing 53 out of possible 64 points in their age group. The 8&U individual winners included James Frucht (19.26s) and Heather Tuft (21.76s) in the 25 m freestyle, Garrett Kurtz (25.78s) and Laurel Yano (27.78s) in the 25 m backstroke, and Ben Osborne (27.20s) in the boys 25 m breaststroke. In the girls 25 m breaststroke, Lauren Teuschl and Heather Tuft tied for first place with a time of 32.04s.

In addition to Heather Tuft, other double winners included Kamron Sarmadi (9-10 boys free and back), Christine Mayuga (11-12 girls free and fly), Jacob Freck (13-14 boys free and breast), Anna Sarman (13-14 girls free and back), Sean Fletcher (15-18 boys free and fly), and Kaitlin Pawlowicz (15-18 girls back and fly).

Kamron Sarmadi and Anna Sarman also registered personal bests in each of their wins, adding to the total of 35 personal bests achieved by Hunter Mill swimmers during the meet.

Hunter Mill vs. Tuckahoe
June 27, 2009

Last season Hunter Mill and Tuckahoe finished with a rare tie score.  This Saturday, however, Tuckahoe defeated the Hunter Mill Sharks 267-135. Full team results can be found here on the NVSL website.
