In 2010, the
Club made several critical updates to the physical
facilities.
The first upgrade was the replacement
of the barn's roof with an entirely new corrugated metal surface and
weather-tight undercoating. The roof contractor also replaced the sheet
metal siding on the sides of the barn with red vinyl siding, added a
double door on the western face of the barn (to aid our movement of pool
equipment into and out of the upstairs area), and added three large
picture windows on the eastern face of the barn.
Next, having fixed our leaky roof and
siding problems, the Board spent a considerable amount of time exploring
potential options for renovating the barn's first floor to replace our
aging reception area, storage areas, meeting room, and bathrooms. A key
factor here was juggling the universal desire for a renovation with cost
considerations, particularly what we could accomplish without raising
annual dues or imposing a special assessment on the Membership (which
several other pool clubs in the area have done to finance improvements).
After soliciting
bids from a number of contractors and undertaking
detailed discussions with each, the Board signed a contract with NVS for a total gut-and-renovation of the barn's first floor. The
renovation was completed by Opening
Day in May, 2010.
The NVS work includes new bathroom
fixtures (and tile, paint, etc.), the addition of 2 new "family
bathroom/changing room" rooms, a remodeling
of the breezeway between the bathrooms, a new check-in area and
lifeguard station, a remodeled reception area, and a complete renovation
of what had been the back storage rooms and meeting room (including a
new
floorplan, new flooring, walls, ceiling, paint, etc.).

In late 2010, we
continued some minor improvements to the facility,
including excavating behind the Club and building a
retaining wall. This removed about 4 feet of dirt
that was directly up against the backside of the
building and causing mildew problems on that side of
the barn. This project also created a new drainage
area that drains water away from the building. We
hope these improvements protect our investment in
the facility.
Finally, in 2011,
we completed tile work on the breezeway between the
bathrooms, and added extra tiling in front of the
family bathrooms. We also installed a new
gas-powered energy-efficient hot water heater. Other
minor improvements are underway, including
rebuilding the front monument and fixing the upper
level bridge and retaining wall on the western side
of the barn.
