Functional Fitness Yoga & Conditioning
Eileen Kurtz will be offering
fitness classes at the pool this summer. Classes combine
all the benefits of yoga with strength and conditioning
in one session. Training includes:
- Vinyasa Flow Yoga:
Improves overall flexibility, stability of core,
hips and shoulders; mental focus and helps reduce
incidence of injury to ligaments, tendons and
muscles. Vinyasa is a flowing style of yoga
that links breath with movement. There are many benefits to the body and mind
including:
- increases lung capacity from
deep mindful breathing which improves
sports performance, endurance and stimulates
relaxation response
- builds lean muscle mass
- increases oxygen to muscles to
improve range of motion and
flexibility of soft tissues (muscles, tendons,
ligaments & fascia)
- reduces risk of heart disease,
high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes
- helps balance metabolic system
to help you sleep better and aids in weight loss

- High Intensity Interval
Training (HIIT): Primarily "circuit" style
training using body weight, dumbbells, kettlebells,
medicine balls, stability balls, plyometric boxes,
resistance bands and agility ladder. You will be
encouraged to work as hard as you can for a short
period of time (20-30 min). HIIT is one of the most
effective ways to condition your body for fat loss
and toning.
- Static Yoga stretches and
relaxation: Yoga poses will be held longer at
the end of each class to help body recover.
Each class will be different so your
mind and body will always be challenged! Weather
permitting training will take place outside on the parking lot.
Please bring: yoga mat, water and set
of dumbbells. Everything else will be provided.
