Welcome to the 2011 Season
By Tim DiCintio, President
Once again Memorial
Day weekend is staring us in the face, and we all know
what that means - the Pool opens this Saturday! We hope
adults and kids alike are looking forward to the 2011
season.
With the bulk of the
2010 renovation behind us, it was a much quieter
off-season for the Club. We did spend a bit of time
finishing up the last punchlist items from the
renovation. These included tiling the breezeway between
the changing rooms, extending the tile to a portion of
the lobby area, working with Washington Gas to run a
natural gas line from Willow Crest Court to the barn,
and installing a gas-fired hot water heater to replace
our old (and leaky!) electric unit.
The Swim Team was also
active in the offseason. Hopefully most of you with
swimmers on the Team had a chance to read the various
updates from Tracy Caprio and Muriel Sarmadi, and
certainly those of us on the Board want to extend our
thanks to Tracy and Muriel for keeping things running so
smoothly. Perhaps the biggest news of the offseason was
the hiring of two new Team coaches, Head Coach Jessica
Fry-Jones and Assistant Coach Kara Flegal McElveen. We
understand some of you know our new coaches from the
Curl-Burke Swim Club, and we all look forward to their
inaugural year with the Sharks!
With respect to the
Board itself, at the end of the 2010 season we bid a
fond farewell to Patricia Tansey (formerly Social Chair)
and Elise Abt (formerly Swim Team liaison). Pat and
Elise "retired" after many years of outstanding service
to the Club, and although we'll miss them, we still
expect to see them poolside! Luckily for the Club,
longtime Member David Link agreed to join the Board and
was formally voted in at the Annual General Meeting last
fall. (Hint: we're still searching for someone to fill
the second open Board seat.) With the various
comings-and-goings, we also shuffled some of the Board
spots - Marci Mouritzen is now Membership Chair, Muriel
Sarmadi is now Swim Team liaison, and David Link has
taken on the Treasurer role. Thanks everyone for your
service!
As the Social Chair
spot is still unfilled, we really encourage your input
and participation in planning the get-togethers, happy
hours, and other fun events that we've historically
hosted throughout the summer. Please don't be shy!
Please also check the Club Calendar and Website from
time to time for updates or, if you're tech-savvy,
follow us on Twitter.
In the meantime,
please kick back, relax, enjoy the pool, and let us know
if there's anything we can do to make the Club a better
place. |
